Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called for dialogue and consultation as key pillars for achieving regional peace, speaking at the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum in China. PA (Media & Publicity) to the Honourable Minister, Mati Ali, in a statement disclosed Badaru Abubakar’s keynote lecture at the forum’s Fourth Plenary Session themed “Upholding International Order and Promoting Peaceful Development”.

Badaru Abubakar emphasized that constructive engagement and inclusive processes are fundamental to lasting peace, saying, “Dialogue succeeds where confrontation fails. It is the foundation on which lasting security is built.” He highlighted Nigeria’s contributions to regional peacebuilding, including ECOWAS interventions in Liberia, Sierra Leone, and The Gambia, operations against Boko Haram, and domestic initiatives like the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme and Operation Safe Corridor.

The Minister linked Nigeria’s efforts to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, affirming that strategic autonomy and proactive engagement underpin Nigeria’s peace contributions. Badaru Abubakar stated that domestic reform and multilateral cooperation mutually reinforce security, stability, and development, urging global partners to embrace dialogue and collaboration for international order and peaceful development.
