Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has raised an alarm over the confiscation of her passport by officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The incident occurred on Tuesday as she was attempting to travel out of the country. In a post on her social media handle, the senator directly accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of issuing a standing instruction to the immigration service to seize her travel document.

According to Senator Natasha, this marks the second time her passport has been seized under similar circumstances. She detailed that officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service explicitly informed her that Akpabio directed them to prevent her from traveling, alleging that she embarrasses the nation whenever she goes abroad. “The officers of NIS informed me that Akpabio claimed I should not be allowed to travel out of the country because I embarrass the Nation whenever I travel,” she stated in her post.

As of now, there has been no official statement released by the Nigerian Immigration Service or from the office of Senator Godswill Akpabio regarding these allegations. The situation has sparked concerns over the misuse of power and the rights of elected officials.
