A section of roadway collapsed in Omaha on Tuesday, swallowing two vehicles that were stopped at a red light.

According to police, the incident occurred at a busy intersection when the pavement suddenly gave way beneath the vehicles, causing them to sink into the hole created by the collapse.

Authorities said both drivers were able to climb out of their vehicles without assistance and did not sustain any injuries.

Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the collapse to secure the area and prevent further accidents. The affected section of the road has since been cordoned off as officials assess the damage and begin investigations into the cause of the cave-in.

City officials have not yet disclosed what may have triggered the collapse, but preliminary assessments are underway. Motorists have been advised to avoid the area while repair work is ongoing.

Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
