Resident doctors across Nigeria have announced plans to commence a nationwide strike on Tuesday, April 7, citing the government’s failure to meet key demands.

The President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dr. Mohammed Suleiman, disclosed that the industrial action is driven by unresolved issues, including the reinstatement of five dismissed doctors, payment of outstanding salary arrears, and the need for improved working conditions.

Despite the Federal Government’s release of ₦21.3 billion aimed at settling backlog allowances, the association maintains that the intervention falls short of addressing their core concerns.

The strike, themed “No Implementation, No Going Back,” is expected to proceed as scheduled, with NARD emphasizing its commitment to ensuring compliance with its demands.

The planned action is likely to significantly disrupt healthcare services nationwide, raising concerns about access to medical care during the strike period.
