2027 Polls: No Decision Yet on NDC, Consultations Ongoing – Kwankwaso
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said he is yet to take a final decision on joining the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), stressing that consultations are still ongoing.
Kwankwaso also dismissed speculations about his presidential ambition, stating that he has neither declared interest in the 2027 presidency nor endorsed any aspirant.
In a statement titled “Clarification on My Political Position,” posted on his X account and obtained by Arise News, the former governor described circulating reports as misleading narratives.
He explained that the Kwankwasiyya Movement exited the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) due to what he described as externally influenced legal challenges that made continued membership untenable. He added that the ADC is now facing similar difficulties.
On the legal issues, Kwankwaso noted that a recent judgment by the Supreme Court of Nigeria affirmed the legitimacy of a National Working Committee led by David Mark, but also remitted the matter back to a lower court, leaving the party in a precarious position.
He further disclosed that the Federal High Court had ruled to delegitimise the party’s recent convention, while the Attorney General of the Federation has also filed an application seeking the deregistration of the ADC.
Kwankwaso’s remarks come amid ongoing political realignments and growing uncertainty within opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
