FG Approves New Salary Structure, Improved Conditions of Service for NiMet Workers

The Federal Government has approved a new consolidated salary structure and enhanced conditions of service for staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), in what is seen as a major boost to the welfare of workers in the agency.

The approval was conveyed in an official letter issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and addressed to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.

The document, referenced No. 58957/S.2/T1/40 and dated April 29, 2026, was signed by Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary, General Services, on behalf of the SGF.

Titled “Re-Request for Salary Relativity Implementation in the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet),” the letter confirmed that the approved salary structure will take effect from June 1, 2026.

“I am directed to convey that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has approved the recommended consolidated salary structure for NiMet with an effective date of June 1, 2026,” the letter stated.

It also confirmed approval of an updated Condition of Service for NiMet staff, which is expected to redefine employment terms and improve workplace standards within the agency.

Staff React, Commend Leadership
Reacting to the development, a staff member of NiMet who spoke anonymously praised the agency’s management under the leadership of Charles Anosike, describing the approval as a significant milestone for workers.

The staff said the new structure would improve morale, strengthen productivity, and address long-standing concerns over welfare and remuneration within the agency.

He added that the reforms reflect “giant strides” that would have lasting positive impact on employees and operational efficiency.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency plays a critical role in providing weather forecasts and climate-related data that support key sectors such as aviation, agriculture, disaster risk management, and maritime operations.

The latest government approval is expected to enhance staff motivation and improve service delivery in line with the agency’s expanding national responsibilities
