Arsenal and PSG Set for Budapest Blockbuster as Champions League Final Matchup Confirmed
Arsenal will face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in the 2026 UEFA Champions League final on Saturday, 30 May, after both clubs secured dramatic semifinal victories to book their places at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

The Gunners ended a 20-year wait for a second Champions League final appearance when Bukayo Saka’s first-half strike propelled Mikel Arteta’s side past Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate. For Arsenal, it is a chance to go one better than their heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Barcelona in the 2006 final, a match remembered for Jens Lehmann’s early red card and late Barcelona goals from Samuel Eto’o and Juliano Belletti.
PSG, meanwhile, cemented their status as the continent’s dominant force by overcoming Bayern Munich in a stunning 6-5 aggregate victory. The reigning champions, who thrashed Inter Milan 5-0 in last year’s final, drew 1-1 at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night courtesy of a third-minute strike from Ousmane Dembele. Harry Kane’s stoppage-time equaliser arrived too late to deny Luis Enrique’s men.
The victory sets up a compelling contrast of styles at the 67,000-capacity Puskas Arena. PSG enter the final as the competition’s most prolific attacking force, having scored 44 goals across their campaign. Arsenal present the opposite challenge: the Premier League leaders remain the tournament’s only unbeaten side and boast the tightest defence, having conceded just six goals in 14 matches.
Arsenal’s path to Budapest was forged through resilience. After finishing top of the league phase, Arteta’s side dispatched Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting CP, and finally Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid. “I woke up with a smile this morning because it’s been 20 years since we got to the final,” Arsenal legend Thierry Henry said on CBS Sports. The former Gunners striker, who played in the 2006 final, warned that PSG present a formidable challenge. “Look at how PSG played tonight, they can kill you in both ways, by scoring more goals than you and by neutralising you. It will be very difficult.”
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi was ebullient after watching his side eliminate Bayern. “It’s magnificent, two finals. We want to go for the second star,” Al-Khelaifi told Canal+. “We don’t have players, we have warriors. We have a solid team. It’s our goal to win a second time.”
Luis Enrique, who guided PSG to their maiden Champions League triumph in 2025, acknowledged the difficulty that awaits against Arteta’s Arsenal. The two managers share history having been teammates at Barcelona during the early stages of Arteta’s playing career. “I have great respect for Arteta, because we were teammates at Barca when he was very young,” Luis Enrique said after the Bayern win. “Mikel Arteta has built a very strong team. I know the final will be very difficult, but we believe in our style of play. PSG will fight to the end.”
The final will kick off at 5pm BST, a departure from the traditional 8pm start time, with UEFA citing a desire to “enhance the matchday experience and benefit fans, teams and host cities.” American rock band The Killers are scheduled to headline the pre-match entertainment.
Ticket allocation will see each club receive approximately 16,824 seats for their supporters, with a further 4,600 available to the general public. The remaining third of the stadium will be distributed to UEFA’s commercial partners, broadcasters, and member associations. Arsenal have confirmed that priority will go to season ticket holders who have attended qualifying home and away fixtures, with remaining tickets subject to a ballot.
For Arsenal, the final represents an opportunity to capture Europe’s greatest prize for the first time in the club’s history. For PSG, it is a chance to become only the second team after Real Madrid to successfully defend the Champions League title. The stage is set in Budapest for a showdown between creativity and control, between the champions and the challengers, between the tournament’s most potent attack and its most stubborn defence.
