Hon. Natasha Osawaru Idibia, the Edo State House of Assembly member representing Egor Constituency and wife of music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Nigeria Democratic Congress. The lawmaker was received alongside the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Charity Aiguobarueghian, and other political figures from Edo and Gombe States during a ceremony held on Thursday at the Abuja residence of NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson.

Addressing the new entrants, Dickson assured them of fairness and equal opportunity within the party, stating that the NDC remains committed to internal democracy, discipline, and inclusiveness. “The party remains open to all Nigerians who share its vision of good governance, national unity, and inclusive development. It is focused on women and youth participation,” he said. Dickson also warned against personal ambition overriding party interest, stressing the need for unity and structure within political organizations.

Speaking at the event, Osawaru expressed optimism about the future of the party and praised Dickson’s leadership. “It has not been easy at all. But we thank God that we still have a leader like Senator Dickson. It keeps reminding me of where we are and where the country is supposed to go. It is obvious that the country needs to salute him and the NDC for this. I also believe that very soon, the NDC will take over the country,” she said.

The event featured the presentation of membership cards to the new members, and 2Baba added a symbolic touch to the occasion with a brief musical performance. The singer appeared wearing a white shirt with the inscription “Natasha Don Come o,” signaling support for his wife’s political move. Dickson acknowledged the artiste during his remarks, inviting him to perform as part of the ceremony.

Osawaru has already declared her intention to seek a second term under the NDC. In a campaign flyer obtained by media outlets, the lawmaker playfully interpreted NDC as “Natasha Don Come,” maintaining that with her alignment with the new platform, a new Edo State would emerge. Additionally, she has disclosed her support for the presidential ambition of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, posting a photograph of herself with the former Anambra State governor and urging Nigerians to support him.

The defection comes just days after Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso joined the NDC, a move widely seen as a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections. Activist Aisha Yesufu, who recently left the African Democratic Congress, also backed the movement, describing it as a turning point in Nigerian politics. “The goal is to build a society where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” she stated.
