Nigeria and the Republic of Poland are set to deepen bilateral cooperation in key sectors including digital economy, defence, agriculture, and maritime development, as both countries signalled renewed commitment to stronger economic ties.

Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this on Thursday while receiving Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski, during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Shettima said Nigeria, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has repositioned its economy for global investment through major reforms aimed at attracting foreign partners and investors.

According to him, the Tinubu administration has implemented bold economic policies, including the liberalisation of the foreign exchange market, removal of fuel subsidy, and harmonisation of tax laws to create a more business-friendly environment.

“Nigeria is open for business. Since assuming office over two years ago, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has unlocked the full potential of the Nigerian economy,” the Vice President said.

He noted that Poland possesses strong industrial capabilities in areas such as shipbuilding, defence production, digital innovation, and maritime economy, stressing that Nigeria sees significant opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

“There is room for enhanced business relations between Nigeria and Poland. We believe in partnerships that are mutually rewarding rather than relationships built solely on dependence for aid,” Shettima stated.

The Vice President also described Poland as one of Europe’s most progressive and strategic nations, expressing optimism that stronger collaboration would benefit both countries economically and technologically.

Earlier, Gawkowski described Nigeria as Poland’s most strategic partner in Africa, citing the country’s large population, growing technology ecosystem, and expanding economic potential.
