NUPRC Warns Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment Letters, Job Scams

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has warned Nigerians to be wary of fraudulent recruitment schemes involving fake employment letters and individuals demanding money from job seekers.

The Commission issued the warning on Tuesday following reports of fake employment offers allegedly issued in its name.

According to NUPRC, some of the fraudulent letters carry the names of individuals who are not known to the Commission, while others are reportedly produced with artificial intelligence and designed to resemble genuine official correspondence.

NUPRC said it is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise, urging members of the public to disregard employment offers that cannot be independently verified.

The regulator also cautioned against individuals who claim they can secure employment with the Commission in exchange for money.

It stressed that job seekers should not make payments to anyone claiming to have influence over recruitment into the agency.

The warning comes amid increasing cases of recruitment fraud in Nigeria, where scammers target unemployed graduates and other job seekers with official-looking letters, fabricated appointment documents and promises of lucrative government positions.

The Commission advised anyone who receives an employment offer purportedly issued by NUPRC to verify its authenticity through the agency’s official channels before taking any action.

NUPRC said members of the public should exercise particular caution when dealing with unsolicited recruitment messages, especially those requesting payment or personal information.

The Commission’s warning is intended to prevent unsuspecting job seekers from losing money or becoming victims of identity-related fraud.

Nigerians seeking employment with government agencies are therefore advised to rely on officially announced recruitment exercises and verify offers directly with the relevant institution.
