Cross River Commissioner, Eka Williams, Dies After Collapsing In Abuja

Cross River State Commissioner for Power, Dr Eka Williams, has died after reportedly collapsing in Abuja and being rushed to a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.

Family sources confirmed his death on Sunday, September 13, 2026, according to reports by Hit FM Calabar.

The circumstances surrounding his death had not been made public as of the time of filing this report.

Williams, who was from Akparabong in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State, was said to have remained active shortly before his death. A close associate said he was present during Governor Bassey Otu’s recent visit to Ikom and was later invited to the governor’s residence for an assessment meeting.

The news reportedly came as a shock to his family, friends and members of his community. His brother, Nkang Williams, expressed disbelief over the sudden loss, saying the family was still struggling to accept that the commissioner had died.

“I am still struggling to accept that my brother, who was recently with my family, has suddenly become a memory,” Nkang said.

He described the late commissioner as a man who touched lives, shared knowledge and built lasting relationships, adding that his family would continue to celebrate his life and legacy.

Williams is the second commissioner to die under the administration of Governor Bassey Otu. The Commissioner for Tourism, Abubakar Ewa, died in 2025.
