Resident Doctors Threaten Strike, Give FG Two Weeks To Act

The National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has issued a two week ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve outstanding welfare concerns or risk industrial action.

The ultimatum was issued during the association’s 46th Annual General Meeting in Calabar, where Dr Emmanuel Ogar Idoko was elected as the new National President.

Among the doctors’ demands are the payment of outstanding allowances, full implementation of the review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS, and the resolution of discrepancies affecting the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund.

The association is also demanding a review of doctors’ salaries and appropriate compensation for excess workload.

NARD further called for improved security measures and stronger protection for healthcare workers following concerns over assaults on medical personnel while carrying out their duties.

The association said the Federal Government must address the outstanding issues within two weeks to prevent the doctors from taking industrial action.
