Social Democratic Party presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has mourned the death of veteran Nollywood actor, Olu Jacobs, describing the late thespian as an icon who positively influenced multiple generations.

Adebayo, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Head of Communications of his campaign, Mark Adebayo, said Jacobs’ death had created a significant void in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

He described the late actor as a master of his craft whose discipline, professionalism and extensive body of work contributed to the development and international recognition of Nigerian cinema.

According to Adebayo, Jacobs “defined the golden era of Nigerian entertainment” and set a high standard for acting through his memorable performances, distinctive voice and commanding stage presence.

He also said the veteran actor used his talent and experience to influence younger generations of performers and filmmakers, adding that his contribution extended beyond entertainment to Nigeria’s cultural development.

Adebayo said Jacobs’ work helped open the way for Nollywood to gain greater international recognition, while his performances connected with audiences across generations.

“Olu Jacobs was a professional to the core who positively impacted his generation and beyond. He did not just act stories; he shaped our collective history,” Adebayo said.

The SDP candidate expressed condolences to Jacobs’ family, particularly his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, as well as colleagues and others in the Nigerian and international entertainment community.

“Nigeria has lost a national treasure,” he said, adding that although Jacobs’ death was a cause for mourning, his body of work and influence would continue to inspire future generations of filmmakers and actors.
