The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has directed the withdrawal of all pending defamation lawsuits against individuals, citing a spiritual revelation during a New Year church service. Akpabio made the announcement on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo.

He disclosed that he had initiated approximately nine court cases against persons accused of defaming his character. “I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name,” Akpabio stated. “But as I listened to the priest, I suddenly realised that the message was directed at me, and I therefore instruct my solicitors to withdraw all the lawsuits against them.”

The homily delivered by the Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Parish, Aka, and Vicar-General of the Catholic Diocese of Uyo, Very Reverend Father Donatus Udoette, focused on the necessity of peace and reconciliation. Father Udoette stressed that peace is the greatest need of mankind and urged parishioners to live harmoniously. “You have to let go of the past, no matter what it was. All of us carry some luggage of pain and hurt. You must let go if you want to move forward,” the priest said.

With this public announcement, Senator Akpabio has formally ended all ongoing defamation-related legal actions, drawing a line under the widely reported disputes as the new year begins.
