COURT NULLIFIES PDP’S IBADAN NATIONAL CONVENTION, AFFIRMS CARETAKER COMMITTEE
The Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, null and void.
The judgment came in the suit FHC/IB/CS/121/2025: PDP v. INEC & 6 Others, which was heard today by Justice Uche Agomoh, who delivered the ruling in open court.
In his judgment, Justice Agomoh held that the convention and all decisions taken during the gathering were illegal and amounted to nullities.
He further affirmed that the PDP caretaker committee remains the only lawful governing body of the party, and is the entity that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should recognize and engage with under the law.
The judge described the suit as a “brazen attempt” to legitimize actions carried out in violation of existing court orders and emphasized that the court would not allow such attempts to stand.
He added that the court could not sit on appeal over prior judgments and consequently dismissed the application in its entirety.Reacting to the ruling, Chief Ferdinand Oshioke Orbih, SAN, of the PDP caretaker committee, praised the judgment, describing it as a reaffirmation of the rule of law and respect for judicial authority.
Attempts by journalists to obtain comments from INEC’s counsel after the proceedings proved unsuccessful, as the lawyer declined to speak with the media.
