A passenger liner affected by a suspected hantavirus exposure has arrived in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam, where authorities have begun quarantining crew members and carrying out full disinfection procedures aboard the vessel.

Health officials confirmed that the ship was immediately placed under strict biosecurity protocols upon docking after concerns emerged that individuals onboard may have been exposed to Hantavirus infection during the voyage.

Local port health authorities in Rotterdam moved swiftly to isolate crew members for medical observation while sanitation teams began a deep-cleaning operation of the ship to prevent any potential spread.

Although officials have not yet disclosed the number of suspected cases or the origin of the exposure, the situation has prompted heightened monitoring of passengers and crew as part of international maritime health safety protocols.

Hantavirus infections are typically contracted through contact with infected rodents or exposure to contaminated environments, and in rare cases can lead to severe respiratory or renal complications.

Authorities say the quarantine measures will remain in place until full medical assessments are completed and the vessel is declared safe for further operations.

The incident adds to growing concerns about infectious disease control in closed maritime environments, where illnesses can spread rapidly if not detected early.
