Iran Halts Diplomacy With US as Israel Escalates Lebanon Strikes
Iran has suspended ongoing diplomatic talks with the United States following renewed Israeli military strikes in Lebanon, according to Iranian state media reports, further deepening tensions across the Middle East.
The decision comes amid escalating regional violence involving Israel and Hezbollah-linked targets in Lebanon, which Tehran says has undermined the conditions required for continued negotiations with Washington.
Iranian officials said the suspension is directly linked to Israel’s continued airstrikes in Lebanon, arguing that the security situation has made further negotiations “unworkable” at this stage.
State media reports indicate that Tehran believes the United States bears indirect responsibility for the escalation due to its political and military support for Israel.
The talks, which were aimed at reducing tensions and exploring broader security and nuclear-related understandings, have now been paused indefinitely, with no new date announced for resumption.
According to multiple reports, Iran has repeatedly insisted that progress in negotiations cannot continue while Israeli operations in Lebanon remain ongoing.
The latest Israeli strikes in Lebanon are part of a broader escalation involving Hezbollah positions in southern and suburban Beirut areas, prompting widespread international concern over a potential regional spillover.
The violence has also triggered renewed diplomatic pressure from global powers calling for restraint and a return to negotiations.
There has been no immediate response from the United States regarding Iran’s announcement, while diplomatic observers say the suspension adds further uncertainty to already fragile regional negotiations.
Analysts warn that unless a ceasefire framework is reached in Lebanon, diplomatic channels between Tehran and Washington may remain frozen for the foreseeable future.
