Israel and Lebanon Hold US-Hosted Talks After Overnight Hezbollah–Israeli Strikes
Israel and Lebanon are holding US-hosted diplomatic talks in Washington following another night of intense cross-border exchanges between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, according to multiple international reports.
The discussions come as fighting continued overnight in southern Lebanon and northern Israel, with both sides reporting drone and missile activity despite earlier US-led efforts to calm tensions in the region.
Reports indicate that Israeli airstrikes hit targets in southern Lebanon while Hezbollah launched rockets and drones toward northern Israel, triggering air raid sirens in several areas.
The renewed violence comes even after recent US diplomatic efforts claimed to have secured a limited understanding aimed at reducing attacks on civilian areas and easing tensions around Beirut and northern Israel.
However, both sides have continued to accuse each other of violations, with no durable ceasefire yet in place.
Diplomatic delegations from Israel and Lebanon are meeting under US mediation in Washington for what is understood to be a fourth round of discussions, focusing on security arrangements, border stability, and steps to prevent further escalation.
US officials are reportedly pushing for a framework that could reduce hostilities in southern Lebanon while addressing long-standing disputes involving Hezbollah’s military activities near the border.
The talks are taking place against a broader backdrop of heightened Middle East instability, with analysts warning that continued tit-for-tat attacks risk widening the conflict beyond the Israel–Hezbollah front.
Humanitarian concerns are also mounting, as continued strikes have displaced large numbers of civilians in southern Lebanon and forced evacuations in northern Israel.
While diplomatic engagement continues in Washington, analysts say there is still no clear breakthrough in sight, as core disagreements remain over security guarantees, withdrawal conditions, and Hezbollah’s role in southern Lebanon.
For now, both diplomacy and military action appear to be running in parallel, keeping the region on edge.
