The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled multiple drug dens across Abuja and its surrounding areas in a coordinated two-week crackdown that led to the arrest of 132 suspects and the recovery of about 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances.

The sustained offensive targeted major drug hotspots within the Federal Capital Territory and adjoining communities, following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance operations.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the raids were designed to disrupt drug trafficking networks, destroy identified bunkers, and curb associated criminal activities in the nation’s capital.

The coordinated operations covered several locations, including Torabora Hills, Area 3, Gwarinpa, AYA, Durumi, Banex, Dei-Dei, Kubwa, Apo, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Wuse Zone 4, Garki Area 10, Jabi, and the Suleja axis, among others.

During the exercise, operatives recovered 214.79 kilograms of skunk, a strong strain of cannabis, alongside 5.524 kilograms of Diazepam and other controlled substances such as Exol, Tramadol, Mogadon, Cocaine, Rohypnol, Methamphetamine, Ecstasy, Codeine syrup, and related psychoactive drugs.

The agency said the raids mark one of its most extensive recent operations in the FCT, aimed at flushing out entrenched drug distribution networks operating within residential and commercial areas.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the operatives involved in the operation, describing their efforts as crucial to restoring safety and order in the Federal Capital Territory.

Marwa reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown, stressing that the NDLEA would continue to intensify operations against drug cartels and dealers until drug trafficking networks are significantly weakened across the country.
