The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s forthcoming National Convention, scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. In a communiqué issued at the end of its 7th meeting in Gusau, Zamfara State, the governors warned against actions capable of derailing the convention, specifically referencing comments made by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

“We reaffirm our full commitment to the resolutions of the NEC regarding the National Convention and urge members to resist all attempts to derail it by anti-party forces,” the communiqué read. “The PDP remains the only viable alternative for restoring Nigeria on the path of good governance and national development.”

The Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, described the Ibadan convention as “sacrosanct” and stressed its importance in electing new national leaders, reviewing party policies, and setting a strategic roadmap toward the 2027 general elections.

The PDP Youth Leaders Forum also threw its weight behind the exercise, with its chairman, Jamilu Ali of Gombe State, emphasizing transparency and inclusivity in the process. “We stand firmly behind the PDP National Convention and the zoning committee. November 15-16, 2025, is sacrosanct. The youth are ready to mobilize and contribute to a convention that will produce visionary leadership,” Ali declared.

The warning from the PDP governors comes amid rising tension over recent comments by Nyesom Wike, who rejected the party’s zoning arrangements and insisted that his ally, Chief Dan Orbih, was duly elected as PDP National Vice Chairman (South-South) at a congress in Calabar. Wike accused the party leadership of undermining due process and warned of “another round of crisis” if Orbih’s position was not recognized.

The PDP governors, however, remained resolute in their commitment to the convention, pledging to remain focused on rescuing the country from misrule. They accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of “divisive governance” and policies that inflict hardship on citizens.
