President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that the party’s forthcoming primaries are conducted in a peaceful, credible, and transparent manner.

The directive followed a meeting between the President and APC governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the governors said President Tinubu reaffirmed his support for the party’s decision to allow states adopt either consensus or direct primaries, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.

According to them, the President stressed the need for internal democracy and unity within the party, urging stakeholders to prioritise fairness and inclusiveness throughout the process.

About eighteen APC governors attended the meeting, including those from Rivers, Zamfara, Enugu, Borno, Benue, Kwara, and Jigawa states.

The consultations come as the ruling party intensifies preparations ahead of its primaries, widely seen as a critical step in shaping its electoral fortunes.
