Tükiye Supports Displaced Persons in Adamawa with 36 Tons of Lifeline Food Aid Supply

The Government of Tükiye has delivered 36 tons of critical food aid to internally displaced persons in Adamawa State as part of its ongoing humanitarian support for communities affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in northeastern Nigeria. The relief supplies, coordinated through Tükiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority in collaboration with the United Nations, were distributed at the Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons Camp on the outskirts of Yola, the state capital.

The aid packages comprised essential food items and daily-use supplies intended to provide immediate relief to hundreds of displaced families who have endured severe living conditions after fleeing years of violence.

Speaking during the distribution event, Tükiye’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Mehmet Poroy, reaffirmed his country’s longstanding commitment to humanitarian assistance both globally and in Nigeria. He noted that Tükiye consistently ranks among the world’s leading providers of humanitarian aid. “These aid efforts aim to alleviate, even if only in part, the hardships faced by people struggling to survive under extremely difficult conditions,” Poroy said. He also stated that Tükiye continues to support Nigeria not only through relief materials but also in addressing broader security challenges.

The event was attended by the Adamawa State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Bello Diram, alongside local government officials and humanitarian stakeholders.

Also speaking, a representative of the National Emergency Management Agency in Adamawa, Selen Laori, expressed appreciation to the Turkish government for the intervention. Laori described the donation as timely and of great importance for the wellbeing of camp residents, noting that the food supplies would significantly ease the burden on displaced families.

The Malkohi camp houses many individuals who fled their communities due to attacks by the Boko Haram terrorist group and have continued to live under challenging conditions. The 36 tons of food aid are expected to contribute meaningfully to meeting basic needs in the region.

The latest donation underscores Tükiye’s growing humanitarian footprint across Africa, where it has increasingly supported civilian populations affected by conflict and terrorism. The aid aligns with broader international efforts led by the United Nations to mitigate the humanitarian crisis in northeastern Nigeria.

With hundreds of thousands still displaced by over a decade of insurgency, humanitarian actors warn that sustained global support remains critical to addressing food insecurity, rebuilding livelihoods, and restoring dignity to affected communities.
