Major global news organisations including Associated Press, The Washington Post, Reuters, and Minnesota Star Tribune have emerged among the winners of the 2026 Pulitzer Prizes, recognising outstanding journalism produced in 2025.

The prestigious awards, widely regarded as the highest honour in American journalism, highlighted investigative reporting, public service journalism, and innovative storytelling across major global and local newsrooms. Columbia University administers the awards annually.

The Washington Post won the coveted Public Service award for its in-depth coverage of sweeping changes to the U.S. federal government, including investigations into administrative restructuring and policy shifts under former President Donald Trump.

Associated Press secured the International Reporting prize for a wide-ranging investigation into how American technology has contributed to the expansion of global surveillance systems, including links to China’s security infrastructure.

Reuters earned two major awards; for National Reporting and Beat Reporting, recognising its investigations into the use of political power in the United States and its exposé on the risks posed by artificial intelligence and fraudulent online systems.

Meanwhile, Minnesota Star Tribune was honoured in the Breaking News category for its comprehensive and rapid coverage of a deadly mass shooting, capturing both the human toll and the community’s response.

Other notable winners included The New York Times, which took home multiple awards, and several regional and investigative outlets recognised for impactful local and explanatory reporting.

The 2026 Pulitzer Prizes come at a time of growing challenges for the media industry, with newsrooms facing financial pressures, political scrutiny, and rapid technological change. Despite this, the awards underscored the continued importance of accountability journalism and storytelling in shaping public discourse.
