Nigerian excellence has taken center stage on the global stage with the historic appointment of Thelma Ekiyor‑Solanke as the first Black International Chief Executive Officer of Women for Women International, a leading global organisation dedicated to supporting women survivors of war and conflict.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) applauded the milestone, describing Ekiyor‑Solanke’s selection as a defining moment that spotlights Nigerian leadership and influence in inclusive development worldwide.

Ekiyor‑Solanke brings decades of experience in economic empowerment, gender advocacy, and sustainable development to her new role.

She is expected to drive Women for Women International’s mission of providing education, financial resources, psychosocial support, and community networks to women affected by conflict across multiple countries.

NiDCOM Chairman Abike Dabiri‑Erewa praised the appointment as “a proud and defining moment for Nigeria and the diaspora,” adding that Ekiyor‑Solanke embodies the resilience, brilliance, and global impact of Nigerians around the world.

She noted that her leadership is expected to inspire a new generation of Nigerian women and young leaders to pursue positions of influence on the world stage.

Before her appointment, Ekiyor‑Solanke co‑founded Afrigrants and Women in Philanthropy & Impact Africa (WIPIA), and has served on leadership boards including the Global Centre on the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) and the African Venture Philanthropy Alliance’s Gender Advisory Board.
