The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has strengthened the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force by donating a brand-new operational vehicle to the newly established Violent Crimes Response Unit in Lagos State Command.

The donation was made during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the LSSTF, led by its Executive Secretary/CEO, Dr Ayo Ogunsan, on Saturday.

The gesture underscores the Fund’s continued role in supporting security agencies with critical logistics, including patrol vehicles, surveillance equipment, and other operational infrastructure aimed at improving policing efficiency in the state.

The vehicle handover also marks an early institutional boost for the Violent Crimes Response Unit, as Lagos continues to position itself at the forefront of specialised and technology-driven policing in Nigeria.

During the visit, both parties exchanged souvenirs, reinforcing ongoing collaboration between government institutions, the private sector, and law enforcement agencies in strengthening the state’s security architecture.

The Inspector-General of Police commended the LSSTF model, describing it as a benchmark that other states in the country have studied and adopted in different forms.

He noted that sustained support from the Fund had significantly improved police operations in Lagos, particularly in terms of mobility, rapid response, and coordination across security units.

He also highlighted previous contributions from the LSSTF, including operational vehicles, armoured personnel carriers, and aerial support assets, which he said had enhanced policing effectiveness in a densely populated and highly mobile environment like Lagos.

The police chief further appealed for continued assistance, stressing the need for additional logistics support, including more vehicles and the activation of aerial surveillance assets to strengthen real-time response to violent crimes.

In his remarks, LSSTF Executive Secretary Dr Ayo Ogunsan called for stronger and more sustainable funding mechanisms for the Trust Fund, warning that donor fatigue and the proliferation of similar security funding structures across states could affect long-term impact.

He urged stakeholders to ensure consistent financial backing to maintain ongoing support for security operations.

Also speaking, a board member of LSSTF, Mr Ayo Otuyalo, praised the leadership of the police force and reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to continued collaboration in improving safety and security in Lagos State.

The donation highlights the growing reliance on public-private partnerships as a key pillar in addressing urban security challenges in Nigeria’s commercial hub.
