The chief executive of South Korean defense and aerospace firm Hanwha Aerospace has reportedly been placed under a foreign travel ban as authorities investigate a deadly explosion linked to one of the company’s facilities, according to local media reports.

The restriction comes as prosecutors widen their probe into the incident, which resulted in at least one fatality and raised concerns over industrial safety compliance and possible negligence.

According to reports from Yonhap News Agency, investigators are examining whether safety procedures were followed at the time of the blast and whether management oversight may have played a role.

Officials have not yet publicly disclosed the full details of the explosion, but say the investigation is ongoing and may involve interviews with senior executives and plant managers.

The travel restriction effectively prevents the company’s CEO from leaving South Korea while authorities continue gathering evidence.

Hanwha Aerospace, a major supplier of defense systems, aircraft engines, and space-related technologies, has not yet issued a detailed public response to the reported restriction but is expected to cooperate with investigators.

Industrial accidents in South Korea are typically investigated under strict safety laws, with authorities empowered to impose travel bans and summonses on executives if deemed necessary for ongoing inquiries.

Further updates are expected as prosecutors determine whether criminal negligence or regulatory violations contributed to the incident.
