Sudanese Man Nabbed in Plateau Forest After Crossing Into Nigeria Through Libya, Niger

Security operatives in Plateau State have arrested a Sudanese national found wandering in a remote forest area, raising fresh concerns over illegal migration and the porous nature of Nigeria’s borders.

The foreign national, whose identity was not immediately disclosed, was reportedly intercepted during a routine security operation in a bush path within the state. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had entered Nigeria through an irregular route after travelling from war-ravaged Sudan through Libya and neighbouring Niger Republic before arriving in the country.

According to security sources, the suspect admitted during interrogation that he undertook the lengthy trans-Saharan journey in search of safety and economic opportunities. He reportedly crossed multiple borders without valid travel documentation before finding his way into Nigeria.

Authorities said the arrest has prompted further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding his entry into the country and whether he may have links to any transnational criminal or migration networks operating across the Sahel region.

The development comes amid growing security concerns across Nigeria’s northern corridor, where security agencies have repeatedly warned about the movement of undocumented foreign nationals through unapproved border routes.

Officials noted that the suspect’s route mirrors a well-known migration corridor used by irregular migrants travelling through Libya and Niger Republic into West African countries. Security experts have long cautioned that such routes are often exploited by traffickers, smugglers, and other criminal elements.
