Joint Security Sweep in Ogun: 46 Foreign Nationals Without Valid Papers Arrested in Multi-Agency Crackdown
A coordinated security operation involving the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has led to the arrest of 46 foreign nationals suspected of illegal residency in Ogun State.
The operation, which commenced on June 11, 2026, was carried out following credible intelligence and targeted Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and surrounding communities in a sustained crackdown on undocumented migration and related security concerns.
Security sources said preliminary findings indicated that the suspects had been residing in the area for about six months without valid immigration documents. During initial questioning, they reportedly identified themselves as merchants and workers linked to QNet, an online marketing platform involved in product sales and services.
The arrested individuals comprise 18 citizens of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal. The group includes 36 males and 10 females.
Authorities confirmed that the suspects have been handed over to the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and appropriate administrative action in line with Nigeria’s immigration laws.
Commending the operation, Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, praised the professionalism and coordination of the security agencies involved, describing the exercise as a demonstration of effective inter-agency collaboration.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities within their communities to security authorities.
According to military officials, the operation reflects ongoing efforts to curb illegal migration, strengthen internal security, and protect Nigeria’s national interests.
