Abejide Resigns from ADC, Backs Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda
A member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, has formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing a prolonged leadership crisis and what he described as a “hijack” of the party’s structure.
Abejide, who represents Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, made the announcement on Friday while addressing journalists in Abuja. He described his decision as both “painful and inevitable.”
According to the lawmaker, his resignation was driven by the need to protect his political future and better serve his constituents.
“I had to take this step to safeguard my political career and ensure I can continue to deliver democratic dividends to my people,” he said.
Abejide dismissed claims that he was expelled from the party, insisting that his departure was voluntary. He also revealed plans to join a mainstream political platform and align with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
His exit comes amid lingering tensions within the ADC, following a controversial National Convention last month where a faction led by David Mark announced the expulsion of Abejide, Nafiu Bala, and others over legal disputes involving the party.
The crisis further deepened after remarks allegedly made by the President’s Chief of Staff, who was reported to have urged Abejide to destabilize the party, sparking backlash from opposition figures.
