CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS BACK NUPRC OVER OIL BLOCK ALLEGATIONS

The Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity, and Justice has strongly condemned recent allegations against the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) over the allocation of oil blocks during the 2024 Oil Licensing Bid Round. National Coordinator of the Coalition, Comrade James Okoronkwo, in a statement, described the allegations as “unfounded, malicious, and reprehensible.”

Okoronkwo said the allegations, made by an anonymous hack reporter, are baseless and intended to destabilize the oil and gas sector. “We find these allegations even more egregious given the significant contributions NUPRC has made to the sector under Engr. Komolafe’s leadership,” Okoronkwo said. He highlighted the commission’s achievements, including increased transparency, revenue growth, local content development, and regulatory reforms.

The Coalition notes that NUPRC has implemented transparent and competitive bidding processes, ensuring fairness and accountability in oil block allocations. Okoronkwo emphasized that the commission’s efforts have resulted in increased revenue for Nigeria and created opportunities for Nigerian businesses and professionals in the oil and gas industry.
Okoronkwo urged Nigerians to reject the malicious allegations and demand that the anonymous reporter provides concrete evidence to support their claims. “We urge Nigerians to reject these malicious allegations and demand that the anonymous reporter provides concrete evidence to support their claims,” Okoronkwo said.
