Iran Envoys Hold Peace Talks with Qatar PM as Diplomatic Efforts Intensify
Senior Iranian officials, including top negotiators and the country’s foreign minister, have held discussions with the Prime Minister of Qatar in Doha as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at exploring a potential peace framework linked to wider regional tensions.
According to officials briefed on the talks, the Iranian delegation met with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to discuss a possible agreement involving the United States, with key focus areas including maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions-related issues, and Iran’s nuclear programme.

The discussions come amid intensified international mediation efforts involving Gulf states, as regional actors attempt to de-escalate tensions and prevent further expansion of conflict. Qatar has increasingly played a behind-the-scenes role as a mediator in talks between Iran and Western powers.
Sources indicate that the proposed framework under discussion includes phased confidence-building measures, such as easing restrictions on maritime activity and addressing concerns around Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile, in exchange for possible sanctions relief and broader diplomatic engagement.

However, officials have cautioned that while progress has been made in some areas, significant gaps remain between the parties, and no imminent agreement has been reached. Iranian foreign ministry spokespersons have stressed that negotiations are ongoing and complex, warning against expectations of a quick breakthrough.
United States officials have also acknowledged the talks, describing diplomacy as active but uncertain, with both sides still working through major sticking points before any formal deal could be finalized.

The latest engagement in Doha underscores Qatar’s continued role as a key regional mediator, even as broader geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain high.
