World Humanitarian Day: Oluremi Tinubu Calls for Stronger Global Solidarity, Community Action
First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for stronger global solidarity and greater support for local communities as the world marks World Humanitarian Day 2026.
In a message commemorating the day on Wednesday, August 19, the First Lady commended humanitarian workers for their courage, dedication and selfless service to people affected by conflict, natural disasters and other emergencies.
Oluremi Tinubu said humanitarian workers continue to play a critical role in providing relief and restoring hope to vulnerable populations facing difficult circumstances.
She said the theme of this year’s observance, “Strengthening Global Solidarity and Empowering Local Communities,” highlights the importance of ensuring that humanitarian responses are not only immediate but also sustainable.
According to her, lasting humanitarian action requires the protection of aid workers, stronger international cooperation and greater involvement of communities directly affected by crises.
The First Lady urged Nigerians and the international community to continue supporting humanitarian workers who operate in challenging and sometimes dangerous environments to assist people in need.
She also called for a renewed commitment to compassion and respect for human dignity, stressing that every human life deserves protection and support regardless of the circumstances.
“Let us continue to stand together in compassion, uphold the dignity of every human life, and support those who work tirelessly to serve the vulnerable,” she said.
Oluremi Tinubu’s message comes as humanitarian organisations around the world use World Humanitarian Day to recognise aid workers and draw attention to the challenges faced by people caught up in conflicts, disasters and other emergencies.
She concluded by appreciating humanitarian workers for their service and urged continued collective action to strengthen assistance for vulnerable communities.
