Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State on Thursday met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to discuss the worsening security situation in the state, economic development, and recent political developments.

The meeting, held behind closed doors, focused mainly on efforts to tackle insecurity in Zamfara, particularly the persistent threat of banditry and the need for stronger federal intervention.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal briefed the President on the progress made so far in restoring peace and the areas where additional support is urgently needed.

President Tinubu reportedly assured the governor of the Federal Government’s full support, including the deployment of more troops and the provision of essential equipment to strengthen security operations across the state.

The statement noted that the President stressed his administration’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in Zamfara and improving coordination between federal security agencies and the state government.

The governor also updated the President on developments in Zamfara’s economy, especially improvements in the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), while seeking federal support to further strengthen economic growth and create jobs.

Tinubu, according to the statement, reaffirmed his readiness to explore federal resources and programmes that could help boost local industries and expand employment opportunities in the state.

The meeting came shortly after the President received APC Progressive Governors at the Presidential Villa earlier in the day.

Governor Lawal has repeatedly called for stronger collaboration between the federal and state governments in addressing insecurity, particularly the activities of armed bandits that continue to affect several communities in Zamfara.
