At least 33 people, including minors, were injured after a bomb exploded at a nightclub in northern Peru early Saturday, authorities confirmed.

The explosion occurred in the pre-dawn hours at the Dali nightclub in the city of Trujillo, located in Peru’s La Libertad region along the country’s northern coast. According to local emergency authorities, the blast caused panic inside the crowded club, leaving dozens of people with serious injuries.

Health officials said at least five of the victims were in critical condition, with some suffering amputations and shrapnel wounds that required emergency surgery. Among those injured were three minors aged between 16 and 17.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos following the explosion. One woman who was inside the nightclub at the time said the blast sounded like the music system suddenly shut down before people started shouting and running for safety.

Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Investigators are examining whether the incident could be linked to criminal gangs involved in extortion and illegal mining activities that have plagued the region in recent years.

The bombing comes amid a surge in explosive-related incidents in the La Libertad region. Official figures show that more than 280 explosions were recorded in the area in 2025 alone, and many believed to be connected to organized crime groups operating in the region.

Security forces have launched an investigation into the attack as authorities work to identify those responsible and prevent further violence.
