A major Russian military attack on Ukraine has left at least seven people dead and dozens injured, according to local officials, in one of the latest escalations in the ongoing war.

Authorities said the strikes targeted multiple regions overnight, with residential buildings and civilian infrastructure among the hardest hit. Emergency services rushed to affected areas, pulling survivors from the rubble and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals.

Regional officials confirmed that at least seven civilians were killed in the attack while more than 30 others sustained injuries, some of them critical. Rescue operations were still ongoing as of the latest reports, with fears that the death toll could rise.

Ukrainian leaders condemned the assault, accusing Russia of deliberately targeting civilian areas. They renewed calls for increased international military support and stronger sanctions against Moscow.

Meanwhile, air defence systems were reportedly activated in several cities, intercepting some incoming missiles and drones. However, officials noted that a number of projectiles managed to evade defences, causing significant destruction.

The latest attack comes amid continued tensions and stalled diplomatic efforts to end the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. International observers warn that such strikes underscore the ongoing humanitarian toll of the conflict.

Global leaders have reacted strongly, with renewed calls for de-escalation and protection of civilians, as concerns grow over a prolonged and intensifying conflict in the region.
