EDO CITY TRANSPORT SERVICE TO REVIVE INTER-STATE TRANSIT, REVAMP SERVICES WITHIN BENIN METROPOLIS
The Edo City Transport Service (ECTS) has announced plans to revive its inter-state transit services at government-subsidized rates, aiming to cushion the current high transportation costs across the country. Managing Director Barr. Festus Ehimua made this known during a recent media briefing, acknowledging the hardship caused by the high cost of transportation following the fuel subsidy removal. According to Ehimua, the Edo state government is working to address the welfare of its citizens, with plans to fix eight grounded Hiace buses and acquire new ones. “We have sent two buses for fixing already, and by February ending, those buses will be back on the road, and we will start inter-state transit again, gradually,” he said. Governor Monday Okpebholo has promised to purchase new buses, including maintenance-friendly CNG buses, to provide cheaper transportation for Edo people. Ehimua noted that the governor’s intention is to reduce the cost of living in the state by making transportation more affordable. The ECTS has made significant progress in revamping its services, with over 30 buses now operational, up from 12 when Ehimua took office. The agency plans to expand its routes within Benin metropolis and other parts of the state, making transportation more accessible and affordable for Edo people. Commuters have praised the state government and the new management for the improved services, which have made their experience with the transport agency better and more enjoyable. Staff members have also expressed delight and satisfaction with the new management’s approach, which has injected new life into the system and improved staff motivation and efficiency.
