NUC TO INTRODUCE 12 NEW COURSES IN NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES
The National Universities Commission (NUC) is set to introduce 12 new courses into the Nigerian university system. The move aims to respond to changing global trends and equip students with skills that can enhance their employability. The new courses include Artificial Intelligence, Classical Christian Education, Community Health Science, Cooperative Economics and Management Studies, Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science, Geomatics Engineering, Intelligence and Security Studies, Parasitology and Entomology, Sports Management, Telecommunication Science, Water Sanitation and Hygiene, and Islamic Economics and Finance. These courses will be added to the existing university structure under the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS). The NUC will guide the rollout of these courses across institutions in the country. The introduction of these new courses is part of a larger effort to improve university education in Nigeria and train graduates who are ready to take on modern challenges and contribute meaningfully to the workforce. With subjects such as Artificial Intelligence and Telecommunication Science, Nigerian universities are preparing to match the fast-changing demands of the world. As schools prepare to begin these new courses, students and lecturers are expected to get ready for changes in the way subjects are taught and learned. This update could open up more opportunities for young Nigerians both at home and abroad.
