OMOKRI, SHEHU SANI, MAKE LIST AS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT NOMINATES FORMER GOVERNORS, SENATOR, AND EX-AIDE FOR AMBASSADORIAL APPOINTMENTS
The Federal Government has nominated several high-profile individuals for ambassadorial appointments, including former governors of Abia and Enugu states, Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Senator Shehu Sani, and ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri. According to sources, the nominees’ resumes have been sent to relevant security agencies for background checks. One of the nominees confirmed his appointment on condition of anonymity, but others refused to comment. A Presidency official, who also spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the names of the appointees have not been released because they are still undergoing security checks with the Department of State Service (DSS). The official said, “They are already doing security checks with the DSS. When they have cleared security checks, we will release the list. Only those who have been cleared are announced. The process is ongoing. I know we should have a list before the end of this month.” The country’s ambassadors were recalled from their postings almost a year ago without replacement, raising concerns about the potential impact on Nigeria’s diplomacy. The new appointments are expected to fill these vacant positions and restore Nigeria’s diplomatic presence globally.
