TRUMP SIGNS CONTENTIOUS “BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL” INTO LAW DESPITE WIDESPREAD CRITICISM
In a move that has sparked intense debate, President Donald Trump has signed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act” into law, a comprehensive legislative overhaul aimed at reforming taxation, cutting back on inefficiency, and raising funds for security forces. The nearly 1,000-page bill was passed by both Congress and the Senate with slim margins, despite concerns from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

The bill’s provisions include permanent extension of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, reduced spending on federal welfare programs, increased defense and border security budgets, and conservative social policy changes. Critics argue that the bill will increase the national debt by $3.4 trillion, adding to the nation’s $36.2 trillion debt. Additionally, changes to Medicaid eligibility and federal healthcare funding could result in up to 10.9 million people losing health insurance coverage.

Democrats had attempted to delay the vote, with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries delivering an eight-hour speech in protest. “The focus of this bill, the justification for all of the cuts that will hurt everyday Americans, is to provide massive tax breaks for billionaires,” Jeffries said.
The bill’s passage marks a significant legislative moment for the Trump administration, consolidating several core policy priorities into one comprehensive law. However, experts and political opponents have doubted its potential, citing concerns over the budget deficit and impact on low-income families.

Billionaire Elon Musk, a major sponsor of Trump’s presidential election, had threatened to sponsor candidates against Republicans in next year’s midterm polls or form a new pro-American political party if the bill is signed into law. Trump responded by threatening to deport Musk, who is originally from South Africa.
The signing of the bill has been met with widespread criticism, with many arguing that it disproportionately benefits corporations and high-income earners at the expense of middle-class communities. Despite the controversy, the Trump administration has hailed the bill as a major achievement, with Trump describing it as “one big, beautiful bill that will fix everything” during a rally earlier this year.
