Trump Says Iranian Girls’ School Was Not Attacked ‘On Purpose’
U.S. President Donald Trump has said that no one deliberately targeted a girls’ school in southern Iran that was struck during military operations earlier this year, insisting that the deadly incident was not intentional while an official investigation remains ongoing.
Speaking at the G7 summit in France, Trump addressed the February 28 strike on a girls’ school in the city of Minab, which Iranian authorities say killed more than 175 children and teachers. “Nobody did that on purpose,” Trump said, adding that he would await the results of the investigation before drawing final conclusions.
The incident has become one of the most controversial episodes of the conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. Reuters previously reported that an initial U.S. military investigation indicated American forces were likely responsible for the strike, although the Pentagon has not publicly confirmed any final findings. Officials have stressed that the inquiry remains ongoing.
According to U.S. military officials, the investigation has been particularly complex because the school was located near an active base operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Military commanders have said transparency is important and that the probe is approaching its conclusion.
Trump’s latest comments mark a shift from earlier statements in which he suggested Iran may have been responsible for the strike. More recently, he has said he is prepared to accept the findings of the official investigation once it is completed.
Independent analyses by several news organizations and open-source investigators have pointed to the possibility that a U.S.-made missile struck the area around the school during attacks on nearby military facilities. However, no final official determination has yet been released by the Pentagon.
The strike drew international condemnation and renewed concerns over civilian casualties in modern warfare. Human rights groups and international observers have called for a transparent accounting of the incident and measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
