CBW AFRICA SUMMIT 2025 CALLS FOR WOMEN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

The Commonwealth Business Women Africa (CBW Africa) Summit 2025 has ended with a strong call to action for women’s empowerment and economic advancement. The summit, held in Lagos, Nigeria, from March 8-11, 2025, brought together women entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across Africa.
In a communique tagged the Lagos Declaration, the Continental President of CBW Africa, Mrs. Ngozi Oyewole, emphasized the importance of empowering women in driving sustainable development across Africa. “Women are not just participants, but leaders, innovators, and change-makers,” Oyewole stated, adding that “It is essential that we confront the challenges head-on and demand equal representation and participation in all sectors.”

The summit called on stakeholders to “Synergise for Sustainable Prosperity” by exploring ways to create synergies among critical areas such as trade, health, wellness, technological advancement, and clean energy solutions. Oyewole noted that CBW Africa plans to enrol one million girls in coding programs, reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and support policies that enhance industrialization.

The summit urged governments in Africa to put in place mechanisms for women’s economic advancements, addressing global economic challenges. “When women thrive, families thrive, communities prosper, and nations grow stronger,” Oyewole emphasized. The summit featured engaging discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities, resulting in several key outcomes, including the development of resources to support members in enhancing their business skills.

CBW Africa extended its appreciation to all partners, individuals, and organizations that supported the hosting of the summit, including the Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Ibijoke Claudiana Sanwo-Olu, the Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Honourable Hajiya Hannatu Musawa, the Iyalode of Lagos, Chief Dr. Mrs. Bintu Fatima Tinubu, the Director General Manufacturers Association Of Nigeria (MAN) Mr Segun Ajayi-Kadir, and the Wife of the Minister of Budget and Planning, Hajiya Aisha Bagudu.
