One Dead, Five Injured in Shooting at Louisiana Mall
At least one person has been killed, and five others wounded following a shooting inside the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the mall’s food court, where an argument between two groups escalated into an exchange of gunfire, sending shoppers and workers scrambling for safety.
Police say the shooting was not a random attack but stemmed from a confrontation between the groups involved. However, several innocent bystanders were caught in the crossfire, making up the majority of the victims.
The victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, where one person reported to be a teenager, was later pronounced dead. Others remain injured, with at least one said to be in critical condition.
Law enforcement responded within minutes, quickly securing the scene and evacuating the mall. Authorities confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Police have detained multiple suspects in connection with the shooting and are continuing investigations to determine the full circumstances and identify all those involved.
Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes, with people running, screaming, and taking cover as gunshots rang out inside the busy shopping centre.
Officials, including local leaders and law enforcement, have condemned the violence and expressed condolences to the victims and their families, as concerns grow over a recent surge in gun-related incidents in the state.
