The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Adolphus Wabara, has appointed a 13-member interim National Working Committee (NWC) to steer the affairs of the party.

The newly constituted interim leadership is headed by former National Chairman, Tanimu Turaki, following what the BoT described as a leadership vacuum created by a recent Supreme Court judgment.

Wabara said the decision was in line with the party’s constitution, which mandates the establishment of a caretaker structure in the event of a vacuum in leadership.

The resolution was reached during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened by the Turaki-led bloc of the party at the Yar’Adua Centre.

Key stakeholders present at the meeting included Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Information Minister Jerry Gana, and former Women Affairs Minister Zainab Maina, among others.

The group maintained that the Abuja convention which produced the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led NWC is null and void, insisting that the party must adhere strictly to constitutional provisions.

The development follows a Supreme Court ruling which dismissed an appeal filed by the Turaki-led NWC that emerged from the Ibadan convention. The apex court held that the convention, conducted in November 2025, was in violation of an earlier judgment of the Federal High Court delivered by Justice James Omotosho.

Meanwhile, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims of ongoing factionalism within the party, declaring that the Supreme Court ruling has resolved all internal disputes.

“The Supreme Court judgment has now made it known there is only one PDP, and we no longer hear faction,” Wike said, affirming the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led leadership produced at the March 2026 Abuja convention.

The latest move by the Wabara-led BoT is expected to further shape the internal dynamics of the PDP as stakeholders continue to interpret the implications of the Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership structure.
