SENATE APPOINTS ORJI KALU AS CHAIRMAN OF SOUTH EAST DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

The Senate has announced Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC), one of the Regional Development Commissions signed into law by President Bola Tinubu. The appointment was made by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during a plenary session in Abuja.

Senator Ken Eze was also appointed as the vice chairman of the committee. Other members of the committee are expected to be announced soon. As chairman, Kalu will lead the committee in conducting oversight of the South-East Development Commission to achieve its objectives, including civil restitution, tackling erosion, restoration of security, and infrastructure development.

Kalu, a senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, previously served as governor of Abia State from 1999 to 2007. He is also the chairman of SLOK Holding and the Daily Sun and New Telegraph newspapers in Nigeria.
