RIVERS CHIEF OF STAFF EHIE FILES CRIMINAL LIBEL SUIT AGAINST EX-HEAD OF SERVICE, ALLEGES NYESOM WIKE’S N5BN BRIBE OFFER

Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie, has initiated a criminal libel lawsuit against former Head of Service George Nwaeke over allegations linking him to the October 30, 2023, arson attack on the Rivers State House of Assembly. Ehie, during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, vehemently denied involvement, stating, “It is very important to clarify that I was not, I had no hand, and was not part of the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly.” He dismissed Nwaeke’s claims as “baseless and defamatory,” revealing he instructed his legal team to pursue the case. “I hope he is very prepared to substantiate his claims,” Ehie added. The former Head of Service had accused Ehie and Governor Fubara of orchestrating the fire amid a political crisis. Ehie further alleged that Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike offered him N5 billion to betray Governor Fubara. Claiming to possess evidence, Ehie stated, “The evidence is still on my phone,” referencing communications from his tenure as Assembly Majority Leader. He asserted the offer aimed to induce him against Fubara, calling it a tactic by Wike’s camp to destabilize the administration. Addressing the arson, Ehie cited police testimonies indicating the last access to the complex before the fire was by the convoy of Assembly Speaker Martins Amaewhule. He accused Nwaeke of acting on behalf of Wike’s allies, disclosing that Nwaeke had solicited funds from him on the day of his resignation as Head of Service. “His problem was that he was not contented,” Ehie remarked, questioning the credibility of Nwaeke’s allegations. The escalating legal and political clash underscores deepening tensions in Rivers State, with Ehie vowing to clear his name and hold accusers accountable.
