REAL MADRID BIDS FAREWELL TO LUKA MODRIC WITH WIN
Real Madrid gave a befitting farewell to football legend and Croatian captain, Luka Modric, who played his last league game for his team. The La Liga season came to an end with a win for Real Madrid, thanks to a brilliant performance from Kylian Mbappe, who scored a goal in each half. Mbappe opened the scoring in the 42nd minute, stepping out to take a spot kick that was initially parried by the Sociedad goalkeeper. However, Mbappe latched onto the rebound to slot in the opener. He scored his second goal with eight minutes of regular time left, seizing on a Vinicius Junior pass to net the last goal of the tie. Modric, 39, is calling time on his club side engagements after an impressive career in which he won 28 trophies across clubs and competitions. The Croatian legend was treated to a guard of honour by players of both teams in a big tribute to his outstanding career. As Modric walked onto the pitch, he was visibly emotional, and tears were seen streaming down his face. The 80,000-capacity Bernabeau stadium was abuzz with excitement as Modric took his final bow. The farewell ceremony was a fitting tribute to a player who has left an indelible mark on the sport.
