PRESIDENT TINUBU APPOINTS OGUNJIMI AS NEW ACCOUNTANT GENERAL OF THE FEDERATION

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation, following a rigorous selection process. Ogunjimi’s appointment, approved on March 4, 2025, takes effect from March 7, 2025, coinciding with the retirement of the incumbent, Oluwatoyin Madehin. Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that Ogunjimi was chosen through a competitive, rigorous, and merit-based process involving Directors of Accounts in the Federal Civil Service. The selection process, which consisted of a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews, underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to promoting transparency, excellence, and competence in key public service positions. Ogunjimi, 57, holds a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. Onanuga noted that Ogunjimi’s appointment is expected to enhance fiscal accountability and improve the efficiency of government financial management. President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his appointment, urging him to discharge his duties with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s service. Onanuga stated that the president’s decision reflects his commitment to transparency, competence, and excellence in public service appointments. Bayo Onanuga further emphasized that Ogunjimi’s appointment is a testament to President Tinubu’s dedication to good governance and economic reforms.
