SCHEFFLER WINS PGA CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THIRD MAJOR TITLE
Scottie Scheffler secured his third major title with a commanding five-shot victory at the PGA Championship, held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Scheffler carded an even-par 71 on Sunday, finishing with a bogey he could afford to seal his win. Despite having a six-shot lead at the start of the final round, Scheffler’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. He faced a stern test from Jon Rahm, who made three birdies in a four-hole stretch around the turn to briefly tie Scheffler. However, the world No. 1 regained his composure and pulled away with birdies at the 14th and 15th holes. “I just kept hitting it left,” Scheffler said. “I knew it was going to be a challenging day. Finishing off a major championship is always difficult and I did a good job of staying patient on the front nine. I didn’t have my best stuff, but I kept myself in it, and I stepped up on the back nine and had a really good nine holes.” Rahm’s challenge faltered on the back nine, where he bogeyed the 16th hole and then double-bogeyed the last two holes to fall back to four under. Bryson DeChambeau finished in a share of second place with Davis Riley and Harris English, all of whom carded six under par. Scheffler’s victory marked his 15th PGA Tour win and made him the first player since Seve Ballesteros to win his first three majors by three shots or more. As he walked off the 18th green, Scheffler raised his arms in triumph and slammed his cap to the turf in celebration. “I’m just really proud of the way I fought this week,” Scheffler said, reflecting on his win. With this victory, Scheffler cements his position as the world’s top golfer, and his next challenge will be the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club, followed by the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.
