United States President Donald Trump attended a lavish state banquet in Beijing on Thursday evening as part of a high-profile summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping aimed at easing tensions between the world’s two largest economies.

The banquet, held at the Great Hall of the People, followed several hours of bilateral talks between the two leaders focused on trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan, energy security, and the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

During the ceremony, both Trump and Xi exchanged warm remarks highlighting the importance of stable relations between Washington and Beijing despite growing geopolitical tensions.

Trump described Xi as “a friend” and praised the hospitality shown by the Chinese government, while Xi said the United States and China should remain “partners, not rivals” in order to preserve global stability.

According to White House officials, discussions between the two sides included efforts to expand U.S. access to Chinese markets, increase Chinese purchases of American agricultural products, and reduce the flow of fentanyl precursors into the United States.

The two leaders also reportedly agreed that Iran should not obtain a nuclear weapon and stressed the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to protect global energy supplies.

However, tensions remained visible during the talks, particularly over Taiwan. Chinese officials warned that mishandling the Taiwan issue could push relations between both countries toward confrontation.

The summit has attracted significant international attention as it marks Trump’s first official visit to China since 2017. Several American business executives, including leaders from major technology companies, were also present during parts of the visit.

Reports indicate the state banquet featured carefully selected dishes designed to symbolize diplomatic goodwill and cultural exchange between both nations.

Trump also used the occasion to invite Xi Jinping to visit the White House later this year, signaling possible efforts by both sides to stabilize relations amid rising global uncertainty.

The Beijing meetings are expected to continue with additional diplomatic engagements before Trump concludes his visit to China.
