In a dramatic turn of events, the US Congress has passed President Donald Trump’s massive budget bill, dubbed the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” after a contentious debate that spanned several days. The bill, which aims to deliver substantial tax relief to American workers and small businesses, passed the House of Representatives with a narrow margin of 218-214 votes.

The journey to its passage was far from smooth, with the bill facing intense opposition from Democrats and even some Republicans. Democratic Minority House Leader Hakeem Jeffries broke a record by delivering a historic eight-hour-plus floor speech, delaying the final vote in a last-ditch effort to block the bill.

Despite the opposition, President Trump played a pivotal role in rallying Republican support for the bill. He skipped a trip to his golf course last weekend to lobby members of Congress, emphasizing the importance of passing the bill by the Fourth of July deadline.

House Speaker Mike Johnson also played a crucial role in securing the votes needed to pass the bill. After Republicans were held hostage at the Capitol overnight, Johnson rallied enough votes to overcome a last procedural hurdle, paving the way for the final vote.

The bill includes key provisions such as extending the 2017 tax cuts, strengthening border security, and reducing federal spending. It also allocates funds for military expansion and border security, aligning with Trump’s campaign promises.

According to Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith, the bill will deliver up to $13,300 more in take-home pay for a typical family and up to $11,600 more in wages for American workers. It also includes tax relief for seniors, with up to $450 in benefits.

President Trump is set to sign the bill into law at a ceremony on July 4, marking a significant victory for his administration.
